dot_clearThe Beach Boys were America's premier rock & roll band and their music formed the soundtrack for many of our lives during the '60s and '70s. Bob & the Beachcombers were formed to pay tribute to and celebrate the incredible music and genius of Brian Wilson and the many hits that just kept hitting the top of the charts for so many years. And Minnesota seemed like the perfect place to bring the California sounds and lifestyle to the Midwest. After all, California only has ONE beach - Minnesota has more than 10,000!

dot_clearThe Beachcombers were founded in 1986 and quickly built up a reputation and a following as the Midwest's only beach party summertime fun band, landing a summer gig at Valleyfair and booking street dances, ballrooms, nightclubs, city celebrations, weddings, casinos and corporate parties throughout the five state area. For a complete history of the band, visit this webpage on our official band website:
dot_clearOver several decades the Beach Boys remained popular, but the market for live entertainment and cover bands declined as the baby boomers aged, street dances tired of low attendance and people were unwilling to pay to attend an event, corporate events were few and far between, weddings hired disc jockeys, ballrooms and nightclubs closed, and casinos cut their budgets. On top of all that, COVID-19 collapsed the entertainment market for two years and it never fully recovered. Our final summer has been a good one, but a band cannot survive with nine months off every year! To see more about the economic changes the Beachcombers went through over the past twenty years, go to this webpage:

dot_clearWe have been performing at the Fulda "Wood Duck Festival" every summer on Father's Day for more than 20 years. It was always like coming home to a friendly city park where kids would hula hoop and participate in our "Chicken In Your Pants" competition, while parents and grandparents sat and listened to our music as they enjoyed a beer and plenty of home-cooked food. It was Americana at its finest and we will miss our friends in Fulda. We loved that town!

dot_clearOur next three shows were in Lismore on June 25th for their 125th anniversary celebration, followed by our one and only performance in our home town of Eagan for the 4th of July "FunFest" at the Vikings Performance Center on July 5th. We then began our biggest road trip of the summer, that started in Litchfield on July 10th for their "Watercade" city celebration.

dot_clearOur three show road trip took us next to Stephen - which is just 40 miles from the Canadian border - for an all school reunion where we opened for home town hero Gabe Douglas of "Four On the Floor" fame. They followed the Beachcombers with a terrific band featuring top Twin Cities musicians as "Gabe & Friends", along with Bob's son Shawn on drums. Bob got a chance to sit in to play sax on "Maneater" by Hall and Oates and then they had him sing lead on Billy Joel's song "Only the Good Die Young". On Saturday the Beachcombers headed for the Polk County Fair in Fertile.

dot_clearThe following week we returned to Alexandria, where the Beachcombers have played every other year for the past decade in front of the Douglas County courthouse. This show was always a highlight of our summer and this year was the best ever with an estimated 2,000 people in attendance.
