My friend continues:
At the end of the day, if there are injustices being done, what can we realistically do? That's the line these protesters are trying to walk — maximum impact within the allowable means of the law. That's partially what's so frustrating — it feels really helpless, but I'm proud of the people that are (legally) doing what they can to try and protect their neighbors.
New footage of anti-ICE agitators disrupting church service Leftists Storm a Church Service A violent anti-ICE agitator reportedly bit off part of a federal law enforcement officer's finger during a chaotic protest in Minneapolis as demonstrations escalated around immigration enforcement operations. MINNEAPOLIS ANTI-ICE RIOT TURNED SAVAGE — Officer Has Finger BITTEN OFF! And protesters are going into Target stores to protest, demonstrate, and disrupt a private business, chanting and singing songs: Anti-ICE agitators disrupt shoppers inside Target store This week, the "ICE Out Now Minnesota Coalition" descended upon 23 Target stores waving posters, banners, and singing protest songs in the Twin Cities. Protests continue at Target stores And on last Saturday's news, local media was running constant updates on a story from that morning with a constant banner of: 37-year-old man shot by federal agents The truth and the full story? All the facts are still not available, but this first video has a valid and important perspective. This appears to be a 'suicide-by-cop scenario,' says former federal prosecutor
"If you are going to fight with cops in situations that are escalating like this, it is a death wish, and it is really unfortunate that people have taken on this idea that, even if they disagree with the laws as it relates to immigration in our country or even the enforcement of it, to put themselves in such dangerous situations where people around them, even if it's not them, are aggressing against law enforcement engaged in legitimate operations that have gone through all of the court systems and what is happening is perfectly lawful with the officers who are on the ground, and these folks who are putting themselves in the way are putting themselves in grave danger.
There's a very important conversation that's being had, and that's the insurrection act. What does it take for the President to utilize that tool to make sure that state agencies who are supposed to be protecting the public safety are doing so, and if they are not, the federal government has more tools at its disposal. There certainly are grounds to do it, the baseline in terms of establishing the good faith of the President in believing that that's necessary, the legal basis has been established." And what we didn't know at the time was that Alex Pretti had participated in a violent interaction with ICE agents 11 days before the shooting that unfortunately ended his life. Newly surfaced videos show Alex Pretti confronting federal agents 11 days before shooting If Walz attempts to use National Guard troops to inhibit or interfere with federal agents, it is literally a declaration of civil war. I don't think Walz is foolish enough to do so, but I could be wrong... Federal officials speak after agents fatally shoot man in Minneapolis AG Pam Bondi UNLOADS on Minnesota officials amid violent protests My friend's closing remarks:
Given the current events, I feel I can't go without mentioning the chaos unfolding in Iran. As heavy as things feel here, it's impossible not to recognize the scale of violence and bloodshed there. I still hold the belief that our respect for human life, our constitution, and the expectations we place on government are lightyears ahead of theirs, and that's part of why what's happening here is so tough.
And I understand, appreciate, and agree completely with that point of view. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and perspective on these important issues. |
